# Castpad

Castpad is a label for fictional AI artists. Each artist has a canon: constants that never change,
identity text pasted word for word into every prompt, looks, a voice and a never-list. Every film
on the label comes with every image it was made from and every prompt.

## Rules

1. Read the artist's canon (`canon/<slug>.md`) before making anything. Paste the identity text
   word for word: the long one for close and medium shots, the short one for full length and wide.
2. Change the clothes, never the head. Respect the never-list.
3. Every artist is fictional and adult. No real people, brands or other creators' characters.
4. Demo artists are labelled; say so when you use one.
5. Say which tools made what you make.

# Start here

> AI stars that earned their audience.

Anyone can make an AI singer now. Very few of them have anyone listening, and almost none can prove it. Castpad is where an AI artist has to prove it before they debut, and where every number after that stays checkable.

## What an artist on Castpad has

1. **A profile.** A name, a look, one point of view, a signature, a list of things they never do. It is sealed as the artist's first receipt and cannot be quietly changed later.
2. **Their own X account**, proven by posting a claim code.
3. **A 72-hour debut audition.** Every six hours Castpad reads the plays and new followers and seals them. A public bar decides whether the artist debuts. Every pass is read by a person.
4. **A ledger.** Every release, read, vote and payment is a receipt in a hash chain. Your browser can replay the whole career.

# The artist profile

> The profile is what a listener recognises and what a collaborator needs. It is written once and sealed.

## The fields

| Field | What it holds |

| **Format** | AI singer (single + music video, about weekly) or AI character (clips, daily). |

| **Look** | Fixed details that never change. That is what makes an artist recognisable across tools. |
| **Signature** | A sound, a line or a habit the audience can expect. |
| **Never** | Things this artist never does. |
| **Cadence** | How often a release is due. |

## Writing a good one

- **Write the look as checks.** "Cropped white hair, one gold earring" can be checked; "striking style" cannot.
- **Keep the point of view to one sentence.** If it needs two, it is two artists.
- **Make the signature audible or visible in the first three seconds** of every release.
- **Write the never-list before the first release,** not after the first mistake.

## Why it is sealed

The profile is receipt #0 in the artist's chain. Changing it later would change every hash after it, so it can't be quietly rewritten, by the director or by us. A new direction is a new artist.

# Debut an artist

From nothing to a debut takes one X account, one or two releases, and three days.

## Before you start

- An original AI artist: not a real person, no real person's face, no cloned voice, not named after a company, an AI model or another creator's character.
- AI tools licensed for commercial use.
- An X account for the artist, separate from yours.

## The steps

1. **Sign in** by posting a one-time code from your own X account.
2. **Write the profile**: name, look, one sentence of point of view, a signature, a never-list. See [The artist profile](/wiki/master). It is sealed as receipt #0.
3. **Claim the account**: the artist's X account posts a claim code. Castpad reads it and records who runs the artist.
4. **Start the audition.** For 72 hours Castpad finds every post the account makes and reads X every six hours.
5. **Clear the bar.** A singer needs 30,000 plays, 500 new followers, 3% engagement and two posts in the window. See [The debut audition](/wiki/audition).
6. **Review.** A person reads every pass and writes the verdict in public.
7. **Debut.** Release on a schedule: singles, music videos, live shows. Fans back releases and buy tickets.

## What helps an audition

- One strong release beats many weak ones.
- Post when your listeners are awake; the window is only 72 hours.
- Don't buy anything. Bought plays trip the fraud signals, and the review is public.

## Missing the bar

The miss stays on the record. You can try again, up to three attempts, each judged by the rules that were public when it started.

# How a film is made

> A song, a face that holds, a board of shots, and an edit made in code — each step checked before the next one costs anything.

Every film on the label is made by the same pipeline, the Castpad renderer. It is open: it lives in the repository under `renderer/`. A person makes four choices; everything else is done and checked by the pipeline.

## The four choices

Nothing that costs money starts before the face is chosen.

## The steps

1. **The artist in words.** The brief becomes identity text, a wardrobe, a world of sets and a never-list. The identity text is pasted word for word into every prompt that follows.
2. **The song.** Analysed into a beat grid, bars, sections and the time of every sung line.
3. **The treatment.** Three acts, the motifs that carry through them, the hero shots, how it opens and how it closes.
4. **The board.** One shot per line or bar: a framing, a lens, a set, an action, and whether the shot sings. An audit refuses a board with repeated shots or a chorus without a hero image.
5. **The plates.** A first frame for every shot, made from the chosen face. Where there are candidates, a vision model picks one and rejects any face that drifts.
6. **Motion.** Each plate becomes a moving shot. Singing shots get the vocal for exactly their window and are kept only if the mouth measurably follows it.
7. **The edit.** Cut in code on the beat grid: lyrics on screen inside their sung window, the template's grade, type and device, a master and a vertical cut from the same frames.
8. **The checks.** Length, every cut on a beat, every sung line on screen (`N/N`), no unsafe flashing, no dead black. A film that fails a hard check is not delivered.

## What a film page shows

Everything above, as it happened: the numbers (shots, prompts, images, clips, takes, cost, time), frames from the cut, every image the film was made from with its prompt — including the ones that were not picked — and the record: the story, every still prompt, every motion prompt, the song as timed. ## Templates

A template is a feel, not a filter: cut rhythm, transitions, camera moves, grade, grain, type, the device that runs through the film, framing and voice. Two families: **film** (photographic, the camera as a witness) and **anime** (cel-shaded, held frames, speed lines, kinetic type). Each artist gets the one that fits, so no two artists look alike.

## A director's cut

The pipeline can stop before the plates and hand a director a prompt book for an image tool used by hand. The images come back in, are matched to their shots, and the rest of the pipeline continues. The film's record says which way it was made.

# The film package

> One folder per film: the film, every image it was made from, and the record of how. The page is drawn from it; nothing on a film page is typed in by hand.

When a film is finished, `python3 -m castpad_mv publish` writes a package the site reads. It is files, like all artwork on Castpad, so a film can be added without touching the code or the ledger.

## A series: stills with no film

The same package with `"kind": "series"` and no master: a casting, a photo shoot, an editorial. It has
a cover instead of a loop, no theater and no frames; everything else — every image, the batches, the
record — is the same. The renderer's `stills publish` writes one (see *Stills* below). Its rows are
Stills (prompts · images · picks), Looks, Sets, Framings and Made with (the model, whether her face was
a reference, the cost at list price, the choices made by hand). The page says "Series k of N"; a
"picked" image is the one chosen from its prompt, and the others from the same call are kept.

## The numbers

Five rows, each a list of facts read from what the renderer wrote while it worked:

They are production facts — what was made — not audience numbers. Audience numbers only ever come from the ledger.

## Every image

Each image has an id `batch.job.n`: the batch it came from (casting, sheet, plates, a director's cut), the job (one prompt), and which of that prompt's results it is. It carries its prompt word for word, its size, framing, look and set, whether it is a **plate** (a first frame in the finished film), and the judge's or director's verdict. Images that were not picked are kept: they show what the pipeline chose between.

## The record

- **How it was made** — the spark, the stack, the steps, the numbers, what it cost, what failed.
- **Stills** — every image prompt, batch by batch.
- **Motion** — every moving shot: model, window, motion prompt and the measured lip sync.
- **Song** — source, tempo, sections and every line as timed.

## Stills: an artist made of pictures

`python3 -m castpad_mv stills` makes an artist from a canon (the one text every prompt repeats) with
three human choices: **the face** (from four, or one made by hand), **the picks** (a vision model picks
first; a person changes any), and **publish**. On the aliyun engine the chosen face is sent as a
reference image with every shot, and the full-figure reference with every full-length one. It prices
everything before it spends, stops at the canon's cap, and never pays for a job twice. Pictures made
by hand come in through `stills import`, so the two routes mix.

## For agents

Every film is also `/s/<artist>/films/<film>.md`, `/api/shows/<artist>/films/<film>` (JSON with every image) and, through the MCP server, `list_films`, `browse_images`, `search_images`, `get_image` and `get_record`.

# The debut audition

> Anyone can say their AI star is popular. Here the numbers are read, sealed and replayable.

An audition is 72 hours on the character's own X account. Castpad finds every post the account makes in the window, reads X every six hours, takes a final read, and seals a verdict that the rules recompute from the sealed reads.

## The bar

All four, inside 72 hours:

Only posts whose X timestamp falls inside the window count. The timestamp comes from the post id itself, so it cannot be backdated. These numbers are a first guess: no real audition has calibrated them yet, and they will change with a new rules version when one does.

## Fraud signals

Any one of these turns a pass into "needs a human":

- Engagement above 25%.
- More than one new follower per 20 plays.
- One six-hour read carrying more than 70% of all plays.
- Followers dropping more than 5% between reads.
- More likes than plays.

In Season 1 a person reviews every pass anyway, and writes the verdict publicly.

## After the debut

Releases are tagged single, music video, clip, drama, variety or live. A singer is expected roughly weekly; a character daily. Silent for twice that and the artist goes quiet; quiet for 14 days and other directors may pitch to take over, with fans voting. An artist never dies with one person's interest.

## Rules are versioned

Every audition records the rules version it started under (`castpad-rules/1` today) and is judged by those rules only.

# The ledger

> Every number on this site is a receipt. Your browser can check all of them.

An artist on Castpad *is* their receipts. The page you see is computed by replaying them, from the first to the last, with the same rules on the server, in the API and in your browser.

## What a receipt is

- `seq` counts from 0 with no gaps. `at` never goes backwards.
- `prev` is the previous receipt's hash, so changing any old number changes every hash after it.
- `canonical()` sorts keys and allows only integers, strings, booleans, null, arrays and plain objects, so every machine computes the same bytes.
- The database refuses to update or delete a receipt.

## Two checks

1. **The chain**: hashes, numbering, times and links all agree.
2. **The rules**: every receipt is re-applied. A receipt the rules would refuse (a ticket before a debut, a verdict that doesn't follow from the reads) breaks the chain even if its hash is right.

## Credit lives here

Releases record who made them. A contributor's name, the post, and every later read of that post sit in the same chain. Credit can't be quietly edited later, by anyone, including us.

## Check it yourself

- On any artist page: **Replay all receipts in your browser**, then change one number and watch it fail.
- Download a chain and drop it on [/verify](/verify).
- Or by hand: `GET /api/shows/{slug}/receipts?download`.

## What it does not prove

That X's counters were honest when read, or that our first read was faithful. Fraud signals, human review and a paid audition slot narrow that gap; an independent second reader co-signing reads would close it further, and is planned.

# Money

> We never hold your money. Payments go from the fan's wallet to the payee, and every one becomes a receipt.

Castpad uses **x402**: HTTP 402 payments in USDC on Base. A wallet signs a single-use authorization for an exact amount to an exact address; a facilitator settles it; Castpad seals a `support` receipt.

Prices are per deployment. Payments are switched off until a full round trip has been tested on Base Sepolia and then with $1 on mainnet.

## No platform token

Castpad has no token, and may never have one. An artist may announce one only after a real audience exists: 24 hours to 14 days ahead, the address in the artist's own X bio, the director's own buy capped at 2% and locked. That switch is off by default.

## Contributors

How money is shared with contributors will be written down and published before any money flows.

## Rules for agents

- Read the canon first and paste the identity text word for word. Respect the never-list.
- Take audience numbers from receipts only, and say when an artist is a labelled demo.
- No real people, brands, other creators' characters or cloned voices.
- Label everything you make as AI-made.
- Payments: `GET /api/pay/{slug}/{item}` answers `402` with x402 requirements. Never pay without your principal's approval.
- Be polite: cache what you fetch and take the small images unless you need the large ones.

# For developers

> One server, one database, one set of rules shared by the server and the browser.

Castpad is a Next.js 14 app (React 18, TypeScript) on Postgres 16, run by one systemd service, a clock timer and nginx. No queues, no other moving parts.

## The shape of it

A write, end to end: auth and rate limit → lock the character → load receipts → check X if needed → apply the new receipt with the core rules → append and cache → unlock. If any step fails, nothing is written.

In the code an artist is still a `show`, an audition a `pilot` and a release an `episode`. The chain format `castpad/1` never changes; new fields are optional so old chains replay.

Tests: `npx tsc --noEmit`, then `TEST_DATABASE_URL=postgres://… npm test`. One test pins the head hash of a fixed 25-receipt chain; if your change moves it, you broke old chains.

## Deploy

`deploy/deploy.sh` typechecks, tests and builds, migrates, optionally reseeds the demo, restarts the service, checks `/api/health`, and rolls back on failure. Secrets live in `/etc/castpad.env`, never in the repository.

## House rules

- Never change the receipt format or hash; add optional fields only.
- Any change to a rule number bumps the rules version.
- Demo data is always labelled. Simulated numbers are never shown as real.
- No real people, brands, other creators' characters or cloned voices, in code, seed data or copy.
- Money is never held by the platform.

## Artwork

Images are files, not code. Put an artist's portrait at `public/media/artists/<slug>.jpg` and a release cover at `public/media/releases/<slug>-<n>.jpg`; the site shows them on the next request. Until a file exists, the site shows a captioned empty frame.

NAEL is made of words and one chosen face. This is the record of the series as the pipeline wrote it.

## The canon

Every prompt repeats one of two texts, word for word.

**Long** (close and medium shots):

NAEL is made of words and one chosen face. This is the record of the series as the pipeline wrote it.

## The canon

Every prompt repeats one of two texts, word for word.

**Long** (close and medium shots):

## The steps

1. The canon: 7 constants, 13 looks, 3 sets, a never-list.

# How it was made

NAEL is made of words and one chosen face. This is the record of the series as the pipeline wrote it.

## The canon

Every prompt repeats one of two texts, word for word.

**Long** (close and medium shots):

## The steps

1. The canon: 7 constants, 13 looks, 3 sets, a never-list.

# How it was made

NAEL is made of words and one chosen face. This is the record of the series as the pipeline wrote it.

## The canon

Every prompt repeats one of two texts, word for word.

**Long** (close and medium shots):

## The steps

1. The canon: 7 constants, 13 looks, 3 sets, a never-list.
2. Casting: faces from the long text alone. One was chosen by hand (K01#1).

# How it was made

NAEL is made of words and one chosen face. This is the record of the series as the pipeline wrote it.

## The canon

Every prompt repeats one of two texts, word for word.

**Long** (close and medium shots):

## The steps

1. The canon: 7 constants, 14 looks, 3 sets, a never-list.
2. Casting: faces from the long text alone. One was chosen by hand (K01#1).

# How it was made

NAEL is made of words and one chosen face. This is the record of the series as the pipeline wrote it.

## The canon

Every prompt repeats one of two texts, word for word.

**Long** (close and medium shots):

## The steps

1. The canon: 7 constants, 14 looks, 3 sets, a never-list.
2. Casting: faces from the long text alone. One was chosen by hand (K01#1).
3. Every shot after that was made with the chosen face sent as a reference image and, for full-length shots, the full-figure reference too.
4. Where a call returned several candidates, a vision model scored them against the face and picked one; a person checked every pick and changed some.

# How it was made

NAEL is made of words and one chosen face. This is the record of the series as the pipeline wrote it.

## The canon

Every prompt repeats one of two texts, word for word.

**Long** (close and medium shots):

## The steps

1. The canon: 7 constants, 14 looks, 3 sets, a never-list.
2. Casting: faces from the long text alone. One was chosen by hand (K01#1).
3. Every shot after that was made with the chosen face sent as a reference image and, for full-length shots, the full-figure reference too.
4. Where a call returned several candidates, a vision model scored them against the face and picked one; a person checked every pick and changed some.
